Dr. Gary McKnight is currently in his eighteenth year at Freed-Hardeman University. Prior to coming to Freed-Hardeman in 1990, he served as Chairman of the Department of Music at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Dr. McKnight was a student at Freed-Hardeman University from 1973-1975. He then transferred to the University of Alabama and received a B.S. and M.A. in Choral Music Education. After receiving His Ed.D. in Higher Education from the University of Memphis, McKnight came to work for Freed-Hardeman University as the Director of the Center for Personal Development in 1990 and became director of the Sonshine Singers in 1992. In 2004 he became Director of the University Chorale. He has studied choral conducting under Fredrick Prentiss, Rene Clausen, and Dale Warland.
Dr. McKnight worships at the Henderson Church of Christ in Henderson, Tennessee where he serves as an elder, song leader and coordinator of the Young Married Bible school class.
Dr. McKnight is married to the former Rosemary Whittle. They have two sons, Jonathan and Jason.
