KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2007 Volleyball All-America Teams, as selected by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee. Freed-Hardeman University’s Karina Souza was named to the Third Team, while teammate Crissandra Perez earned Honorable Mention honors.

Lady Bulldogs Stun Third Seeded FHU in Region XI Tourney

Henderson, Tenn. – It was a season to remember for the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team. The Lady Lions won their first regular season conference championship and captured a first TranSouth tournament championship, setting records and accumulating several individual honors along the way. But it was not the fairy tale ending that they had hoped for, as the sixth seeded Union University Lady Bulldogs came into the Sports Center and upset the number three seeded Lady Lions to put an end to national tournament aspirations.

Henderson, Tenn. – The teams are seeded and the brackets have been set. The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team (30-4) has received the #3 seed and will take on TranSouth opponent and #6 seeded Union University (24-10) in the Region XI tournament.

Henderson, Tenn. – A little over a week ago when two starters went down with injuries, many began to count FHU out of contention in the TranSouth tournament. But the Lady Lions overcame those injuries, plus a loss to Union to bounce back and win the conference tournament, winning all four matches in three games.

Henderson, Tenn. – Just a little over a week ago, the Union University Lady Bulldogs came into Henderson and upset the Lady Lions 3-1. But it was completely different the second time around as FHU bounced back to sweep Union in three games in the second match of the TranSouth Conference Tournament.

Henderson, Tenn. – It has been one of the best seasons in FHU volleyball history for the Lady Lions, but they are not finished adding to the list of accomplishments. When the post season awards were being announced at the conference tournament, the Lady Lions heard their name called quite a few times. Karina Souza, a senior All-American from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, received top honors as she was named the 2007 TranSouth Player of the Year.

The Lady Lions, who finished the regular season in a tie for first place with Martin Methodist College, has received the tournament‘s #1 seed and will get a first round bye.

After a hard fought match on senior night, the Lady Lions fell 3-1 to the Lady Bulldogs, putting them in a tie for first place with Martin Methodist College in the TranSouth Conference to end the regular season.

With the win, Freed-Hardeman (26-3, 16-1) is guaranteed at least a co-championship with Martin Methodist College, and could claim the outright title with a win against Union University on Thursday.

Montgomery, Ala. – The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team traveled to Montgomery, Ala. over the weekend to compete in the Faulkner Invitational Tournament. Picking up wins over Southeastern University, Faulkner University, Florida College, and Shorter College, the Lady Lions, who received votes in last week’s NAIA poll, improve to 20-1 on the 2007 season.
