Lion Basketball Signs Warren County Post

HENDERSON, Tenn. – April 24, 2008 – The Freed-Hardeman Lion men’s basketball team picked up its second player in three days for the 2008-09 season with the signing of Chris Weitzel of McMinnville, Tenn., to a scholarship.

Weitzel, a 6-foot-9 post, prepped at Warren County High School under Coach Ryan Smith. As a senior, Weitzel averaged 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He was a two-time all-district selection and was named to the all-region team in 2008.

“As with a lot of post players, Chris’s best basketball is in front of him,” said FHU head coach Jason Shelton. “He has good length, good hands, and a nice touch around the basket. His best attribute is his ability to run the floor. Coach Smith and his staff have emphasized that with Chris throughout high school.”

Weitzel joins Tyler Jean (Lynchburg, Tenn./Moore County HS) in the Lions’ 2008-09 recruiting class. He is the son of Don and Sandee Weitzel.
