Work Study

Work-Study Program

The work-study program is an employment program offered through the government for students who qualify for financial aid.  This program is available to both undergraduate and graduate students while seeking a degree. Each year approximately 500 students participate in the FHU work-study program which not only provides financial support for students, but promotes essential academic and career development as well.

To be eligible for work-study, the FAFSA must be completed each year.  Federal work-study eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA and will be awarded on your financial aid award letter.  The inclusion of work-study on your financial aid award letter only indicates eligibility.  It is not a guarantee of a job.  The student is responsible for contacting potential supervisors and finding a job.  There are several jobs that are available for those students that are not federal work-study eligible.  If a student is federal work-study eligible, the government provides funds to the school for the student's employment.  If a student is non-federal work-study, the department the student works for funds the student's employment.

Work-study funds are not credited to your tuition and fees.  This award is earned by you for working a specified number of hours per week (6) and is paid at an hourly rate of $6.55.  Paid monthly, work-study earnings are available to assist with the cost of books, supplies, and personal expenses. The monthly wages will be issued directly to the student in the form of a paycheck.  However, the student may choose to have this amount applied to their account each month by signing a form at the beginning of each school year.

The student will complete a timesheet each month and submit it to the Financial Aid Office on the 16th of each month.  The paychecks are disbursed to the student on the 1st of each month.
