Pied Pipers
Pied Pipers is FHU theatre’s touring children’s performance troupe. Started in 1970 by the late Hank McDaniel, the Pipers has a rich history of making adults and children smile.
Without sets or props and dressed in brightly colored costumes, the group of volunteer college students performs children’s stories, songs, and poems in venues as diverse as hospitals, schools and churches. The Pipers bring wholesome entertainment wherever a childlike heart is found.
Using techniques made popular in shows like “Who’s Line Is It Anyway,” the Pipers make each performance unique. While one Piper may portray a very whiny member of the three pigs in one performance, in the next performance that pig may resemble an entertainer, sports figure or local school teacher! No two performances are ever the same. However, the group’s dedication to quality entertainment for children of all ages makes the Pied Pipers a west Tennessee institution.
The Pied Pipers tour primarily throughout the south. However, the Pipers have also traveled to Russia, Scotland, and. They perform for preschools, kindergartens, elementary schools, children’s hospitals, civic functions, churches, and of course on the campus of FHU.
The group is under the direction of former Pied Piper Jenny Brooks. If interested in bringing the Pied Pipers to perform, send an email to pipers@fhu.edu.
