Nursing Admission


 

ADMISSION INFORMATION

DIRECTIONS: Selection to enter the Department of Nursing is competitive. Only completed applications will be reviewed for selection. All forms, documents, and information become property of Freed-Hardeman University’s Department of Nursing and will not be returned, copied, or released. All items are due March 1, 2008. Selection letters will be mailed April 1, 2008.

The number of students who can be admitted into the Department of Nursing is limited. Therefore, a screening procedure will be used to select the best qualified from those who request consideration. Preference will be given to current students in good standing at Freed-Hardeman University.


To be considered for admission to the Department of Nursing, students must:

  • be accepted for admission to Freed-Hardeman University

  • make application to the Department of Nursing. The application deadline is March 1, 2008.

  • take preadmission entrance test ($25 fee paid by student- see below)

  • have an interview with nursing faculty. Interviews will be scheduled in March.  If you live more than 50 miles away please schedule your interview for the time of the test.

  • present a signed Essential Functions Document

Selection of Students

A point system has been established to assist in the selection of students for the nursing program. Selection for admission to the Department of Nursing is based on a score calculated as a sum of the following values:

  • Cumulative college GPA X 9 (minimum college GPA of 2.8 or high school GPA of 3.0 required on a 4.0 scale)

  • Composite ACT score (minimum of 23 required)

  • 10 X number of courses in English, sociology, and psychology taken with a grade of “C” or better (limit of one course per discipline)

  • 10 X number of science courses from the list (CHE111, BIO211, BIO212, BIO215) completed with a grade of “C” or better

  • Score of preadmission exam

2. Please send $25 to the Department of Nursing at Freed-Hardeman University for the preadmission exam (make checks payable to FHU). If you would like to have a study guide, please go to http://www.atitesting.com/ and order a study guide for the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS™)) exam.

3. Please send or mail your completed application so we receive it by March 1, 2008,
