Beyond Believe
Beyond Believe, announced in December 2004, is an $80 million campaign touching every aspect of Freed-Hardeman University. Through the campaign, generous campaign supporters like you are giving everything from scholarships to cutting-edge academic centers.
Beyond Believe is built on the success of a preceding campaign, Believe. Believe, which concluded in December 2004, surpassed its goal of $32 million by $3.5 million. The campaign boosted scholarships, endowment, and student, faculty and staff resources while building West Tennessee’s most advanced academic business and technology facility, the $10 million Brown-Kopel Business Center.
As the conclusion of Believe drew near and FHU stood atop the greatest campaign success in its history, the university recognized new areas of potential strength and growth. Soon, new goals were set, and Freed-Hardeman unveiled the Beyond Believe Campaign.
Beyond Believe is inviting friends and alumni like you to step up and support the students of Freed-Hardeman through new academic programs, state-of-the-art capital projects, endowment security, scholarships and much, much more.
Beyond Bricks and Mortar
Renovation and Expansion of the Associates Science Center (Make a Gift Online)
Scientific study at FHU is about more than looking under a microscope. It’s about rolling your sleeves up and doing some real research that can be seen in the scientific community. No wonder FHU has prepared students for top-rate graduate, medical and engineering schools … Not to mention careers with employers such as Boeing, Texas Instruments and NASA.
While FHU boasts a thriving scientific community, this community has outgrown the Associates Science Center. Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can help build students and faculty a 13,200-square-foot, three-story addition to the building’s east wing. This addition will offer five new state-of-the-art laboratories as well as the additional classroom, office and conference space needed for a growing science program.
Renovations to the Associates Science Center’s current space will be renovated to house FHU’s new nursing program, currently operating in a temporary modular facility.
Fine Arts Center
The arts at FHU are taught with an eye toward culture as well as career, with alumni excelling in a variety of careers, from academics to commercial music to marketing and advertising.
Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can help place this excellent program in its own state-of-the-art facility. In a new fine arts center, students and faculty will work together in high-tech studio classrooms and work areas specially designed and equipped for everything from piano to scenic design to printmaking.
The new fine arts center will also be a vehicle for professional display of the arts. At this center, you can browse the art gallery, enjoy shows at the state-of-the-art theatre or hear the classics at the FHU recital hall and recording studio.
Library (Make a Gift Online)
The Loden-Daniel Library has helped fuel FHU’s academic community since 1973, often expanding its holdings and technology to support the university’s growth. However, as FHU continues to grow and add new programs and opportunities, the library must now grow beyond its current walls. By giving toward a new library, you can help offer the square footage and capabilities for vast additional holdings as well as the information technology that is central to today’s academic research.
But FHU’s new library will not only house and archive more resources. With reading rooms, conference areas and an outdoor patio, individual students as well as classes and research groups will be able to use the library as an academic commons area. The library will also offer a state-of-the-art historical room, which will enable university staff to professionally archive and preserve FHU’s history.
Student Living (Make a Gift Online)
As campus has grown, FHU has made it a priority to offer students a homelike environment. After all, most of the students living on campus are out of the nest for the first time. To make the most of these four years, a comfortable, safe home away from home must be provided.
However, fostering and maintaining this type of environment through quality facilities goes beyond a one-time renovation or repair. It is a continuous process.
Through the gifts of alumni and friends like you, these renovations, upgrades and repairs, along with new student living facilities, are ongoing goals of the Beyond Believe Campaign. A new four-story, 200-bed men’s residence hall, Sewell Hall, has already been built and named for FHU’s president and first lady, Milton and Laurel Sewell. Future plans include similar housing as well as updates and renovations to current facilities.
Beyond Classrooms
Nursing (Make a Gift Online)
In West Tennessee and across the nation, hospitals are suffering a notable shortage of nurses. That’s why, in fall 2006, FHU established a new nursing program. By supporting this program, you can help students train with an experienced faculty and the very best in educational nursing technology. Working in FHU’s simulated clinical environment, students have extensive nursing experience before even seeing their first human patient.
Master of Business Administration (Male a Gift Online)
The FHU School of Business has trained generations of professionals for leadership in a variety of settings, from local small businesses to Big Four accounting firms. By supporting FHU’s new MBA program, you can help take that tradition a step further. Established in fall 2005 with specialized tracks in leadership and accounting, the MBA at FHU offers an advanced level of professional training in the context of Christian ethical standards.
Master of Divinity (Make a Gift Online)
From FHU’s very beginning, churches worldwide have respected the university for its training of preachers, Bible class teachers and church leaders. Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can help take this tradition to a whole new level. FHU’s Master of Divinity degree, established in fall 2005, is an intense, 86-hour graduate program for the most serious Bible students seeking scholarly study rooted in biblical principles.
Management Information Systems
The blending of business and advanced computer technology is no longer cutting-edge. It is, in fact, a necessary practice to compete in today’s world. That’s why FHU launched a major in management information systems in fall 2005. By supporting this program, you can help students get the cross-sectional training they need in both information technology and business.
Academic and Professional Support
Through academic and professional support, you can help provide the lifeblood of FHU. This support attracts deserving students through scholarship aid while providing the professional and academic opportunities necessary for a sharp, competitive faculty and staff. It also equips departments and offices with appropriate resources while providing Christian educators with comfortable salaries.

The Bible Teaching Program is the fuel for the spiritual development of the students at FHU. The program trains ministers while reaching hundreds more students at a critical point in their lives. Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can help the Bible Teaching Program offer more Bible scholarships, Christ-centered student activities, and training and salaries for a growing Bible faculty.
Athletics (Make a Gift Online)
Athletics at FHU goes beyond winning – on the court, on the ball field, in the classroom and in personal character. The best in athletics resources is vital to the continuous growth of an intercollegiate athletics program of FHU’s quality. Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can help sharpen the Lion and Lady Lions’ competitive edge with new team resources as well as new and upgraded training and playing facilities.
Beyond Tomorrow
FHU’s endowment fund offers the university a strong foundation and security – for today and tomorrow. Through the Beyond Believe Campaign, you can be a part of this strong and secure future by giving to the endowment fund.
FHU’s endowment offers investment growth that is used to fund scholarships as well as university departments and programs independently of the annual budget. And as FHU grows, it also enables the university to meet special needs that may arise along the way.
You can be a special part of FHU’s strength and security by making an endowed gift. While this may be as easy as cash or check, endowed gifts are often planned through annuities, trusts, wills, life insurance policies and similar sources of funding. Through 2007, you may even be able to make a tax-free gift from your IRA.
Making a planned gift to FHU is easy with the university’s Center for Estate and Gift Planning. The center offers a team of Certified Financial Planners that can answer any of your financial questions while helping you meet your philanthropic goals at FHU.
