Declaration of Major/Minor

Students desiring to declare or change their major must complete the appropriate form at the McDaniel House. Mrs. Wilbanks will take your file to the appropriate department where an adviser will be assigned to you. Typically, freshman who are making satisfactory progress are invited to declare a major in their second semester of enrollment.

DECLARING A MAJOR

All students entering the university must complete what is known as "General Education Requirements" during the course of their university career. These courses are the basis of the general liberal arts education which you will receive at Freed-Hardeman. Typically, freshmen who are making satisfactory progress are invited to declare a major in their second semester of enrollment.  Freed-Hardeman offers more than forty majors to its undergraduate students.  In addition, students may choose a "concentration"  (within some majors) or a "minor."

Transfer students with at least sophomore status may declare a major during their first semester at Freed-Hardeman.

The declaration of major process must be done through the Center for Academic Services.

CHANGING A MAJOR/ADDING A SECOND MAJOR/ADDING A CONCENTRATION/ADDING A MINOR

A student desiring to make any change from his/her original major declaration--change from one major to another major, add a second major, add a concentration, or add a minor, etc.--must go to the Center for Academic Services to complete a change of major form. This is the only way in which changes can be officially made. The process is very similar to the original declaration-of-major process. Students are strongly advised to meet with an adviser in the new major under consideration and discuss the feasibility of making a change before the actual change process is begun.
