The Center for Academic Services offers the following standardized tests: ACT, CLEP, DANTES, and MAT. Call 731-989-6060 to schedule a test. Payment is required at the time of testing. Current students may have the cost of the test added to their bill.

ACT Assessment Freed-Hardeman is an approved Residual ACT Testing Center. Tests may be scheduled for individual appointment by calling 731-989-6060. Tests are given to currently enrolled students (for entrance into the teacher education and nursing programs) and to prospective students. Scores from a residual testing center may be used only at the institution where the test is given. Residual testing may not be used for athletic eligibility or the HOPE scholarship program. The fee for an ACT exam is $30 per examination, payable at the time of testing. Unofficial scores are mailed to the student as soon as possible following testing. Students must wait 60 days before re-testing. A student may only take a residual test twice.

CLEP Standardized examinations are offered in the College Level Examination Program in 34 subjects. Students schedule these tests by individual appointment by calling 731-989-6060. A fee of $80 is due at the time of testing for FHU students. Fee for non-FHU students is $90. If an FHU student passes, a $15 per hour fee is charged to put the credit on the transcript. Tests are taken on-line; therefore, students know immediately whether they have passed or failed. Ninety minutes are allowed for each test.
For a standard score of 50 or above, students will receive three to eight semester hours of credit applicable to a degree. Languages require a score of 45 for eight hours credit and 55 for fourteen hours of credit.
To receive three hours of CLEP credit for ENG 101 English Composition I, a student must write an essay which meets the approval of the FHU Department of Languages and Literature. If a student passes the essay and has a 28 or higher on the English portion of the ACT or a 600 on the verbal portion of the SAT, he or she will receive automatic credit. A student with lower scores must also pass the CLEP objective test with a score of 50 or more.
To receive three hours of CLEP credit for ENG 102 English Composition II, successful completion of an additional research essay is required, along with a score of 50 or higher on the CLEP objective test. The research essay may be attempted only once.
Students may not earn CLEP credit for a course in which they are currently enrolled. A six-month waiting period is required before re-testing.
